His long baguette remains close-by so he could sample the various cheeses encountered during the day. As he returns home he surrenders his bike to a German tourist, he makes passionate love to several women, and then doesn\u2019t shower after said extra-martial interactions.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Stereotypes, love them or hate them, are widely held cognitive shortcuts used to describe a group. Here we\u2019re going to analyze the<strong> typical clich\u00e9s about the French<\/strong>&nbsp;and dig a little deeper as to why they exist. Are the French rude? Are French women hairy? Although people are usually friendlier in small cities than in capitals like Paris. People are basically the same everywhere.&nbsp;<strong>If you smile, they will smile back.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>\n<h4><strong> French people are lazy<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>French are notoriously known for being the laziest people on earth. Probably because of their love for strikes. However, according to&nbsp;The Economist, Canadians go on strike much more often than French people and anyone else in the world actually.<\/p>\n<p>Wait, are you telling me that French people are not lazy? No, absolutely not. With an average of &nbsp;1,453 hours of work per year, France is one of the country where people work the least amount of hours. Yet, they still work more than Germans&nbsp;(1337) for example.<\/p>\n<p>One more proof than clich\u00e9s can be totally wrong.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\n<h4><strong> French people never speak English<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8431\" src=\"http:\/\/www.frenchcourses-paris.com\/images\/2016\/02\/Cliche\u0301s-about-the-French-2-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"French stereotypes \" width=\"272\" height=\"152\"><\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The impossibility to <strong>speak English in France <\/strong>often worries visitors.<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s true that some French people are reluctant to <strong>speak another language<\/strong> than French, you most likely won\u2019t have any problem finding&nbsp;English-speaking people in touristic areas.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t, you can always try to pronounce English words with a <strong>French accent<\/strong>. This works surprisingly well.<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned before, it\u2019s always better to start the conversation by <strong>speaking some&nbsp;beginner French<\/strong> as people are much more likely to try to speak English if they see you try to speak their language.<\/p>\n<p>Contrary to the popular belief,&nbsp;French people don\u2019t refuse to speak English because they dislike Americans, but because&nbsp;speaking a language they don\u2019t necessarily speak well terrifies them.<\/p>\n<p>When you are looking for English-speaking people to help you, young people and businessmen are usually a good option as they tend to <strong>speak English<\/strong> better than older people.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>\n<h4><strong> French people&nbsp;dislike&nbsp;Americans&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>French people generally don\u2019t have anything against Americans. In fact, going to the USA is the dream of many young French persons.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, many French people criticize American politics and sometimes feel irritated about it, but most of them perfectly make the difference between governments and people.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>\n<h4><strong> French women all dress like fashion models&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8433\" title=\"Stereotypes about French People - Women clich\u00e9s\" src=\"http:\/\/www.frenchcourses-paris.com\/images\/2016\/02\/cliches-about-french-women-300x164.jpg\" alt=\"Cliche\u0301s about French women - Stereotypes about French People\" width=\"276\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.frenchcourses-paris.com\/images\/2016\/02\/cliches-about-french-women-300x164.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.frenchcourses-paris.com\/images\/2016\/02\/cliches-about-french-women.jpg 303w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 276px) 100vw, 276px\" \/><\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The&nbsp;idea that all <strong>French women dress well<\/strong> is widely spread. Many&nbsp;French women are interested in fashion and like to be elegant, but it\u2019s far from being true for all of them.<\/p>\n<p>Most French people buy their clothes in H&amp;M and Zara and wearing clothes from brands like Dior or Chanel remains a dream for many.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>\n<h4><strong> French people drink wine all the time<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That one is true for some people. Wine is often served with food and every celebration goes with wine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There is also a whole drinking etiquette&nbsp;that you are supposed to follow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Yet, younger people tend to prefer cheap alcohol and you will rarely see people drink wine in bars.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Wine is still considered a \u201cclassy\u201d drink, something you should enjoy and not simply an alcohol you drink to get wasted.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why you won\u2019t see people drinking wine directly from the bottle for example.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li>\n<h4><strong> French people eat snails and frogs<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-13714\" title=\"Stereotypes about French People\" src=\"https:\/\/www.frenchcourses-paris.com\/images\/2016\/02\/french-people-eating-frogs-and-snails-300x123.png\" alt=\"Stereotypes about French food - Stereotypes about French People\" width=\"296\" height=\"121\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.frenchcourses-paris.com\/images\/2016\/02\/french-people-eating-frogs-and-snails-300x123.png 300w, https:\/\/www.frenchcourses-paris.com\/images\/2016\/02\/french-people-eating-frogs-and-snails.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px\" \/><\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Sure, if you go to Paris, you will see plenty of restaurants offering snails and frogs. These restaurants are touristic restaurants and try to fit&nbsp;the idea of <strong>French food<\/strong> that foreigners have.<\/p>\n<p>Yet,&nbsp;these are things French people rarely eat.<\/p>\n<p>If you live with a French family for a few days, you will see that French people probably eat the same food as you do.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li>\n<h4><strong> French people complain all the time<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>There are regularly&nbsp;strikes in France. But it\u2019s hard to say whether it is because French people complain more than other people, or because they are less afraid to fight for their rights.<\/p>\n<p>One thing is certain though, French
